about me
Katie Banks, Jeweller
I wasn’t always creative. With a background in event management, a pilot’s license and a passion for scuba diving I have settled into a more artistic way of life here in Spain.
I started out working with Precious Metal Clay, becoming the first qualified PMC instructor in Spain. The limitations of metal clay pushed me to train in goldsmithing and now I’m delighted to be able to work with both ancient and modern techniques as needed.
I am inquisitive by nature, so I enjoy experimenting and learning through direct experience.
I still enjoy the freedom of metal clay and offer silver jewellery workshops on demand. Please see Artandaluz.com if you would like to book a workshop.
I love being outdoors, and so my jewellery designs are often inspired by nature.
I enjoy designing one off pieces, mostly inspired by the Andalucian countryside or my underwater adventures. By mixing gold with silver and bronze I can offer unique and affordable pieces of jewellery. As far as possible the precious metals and gemstones are sourced as ethically as possible, working with a small group trusted suppliers.
I also enjoy working directly with my clients to create something bespoke, involving the client in the design and sometimes manufacturing processes if they wish.
My workshop is a peaceful place, a short drive from Sotogrande, Cadiz. There are two resident booted eagles that can usually be seen soaring overhead.
When I’m not in my workshop I can generally be found hiking with my dogs, hanging from silks at the local aerial circus or underwater taking photographs of fish.
